High Five!

Background:  (Catching Kids Being Good) Children's feelings about themselves are being formed from what they hear their important adults say about and to them.   Let's make sure they hear many, many positives.

Product:   A replica of young student's hand with a positive saying about him/her on it.

Materials Needed:  As desired, paper, pencil, scissors, crayons/ markers/ or paint.

Process:   Draw a picture of child's hand.  Either the young student can draw around one of his hands with the other hand, or the adult or older sibling may do the drawing, as appropriate. Young student may choose to cut out the hand, or may just decorate it... or not. Young student or adult may print his/her name on the hand. Adult prints a positive statement about an action of the young student he has noticed.  Example:  "John was given a box of crackers and he willingly shared them with his sister."

Vocabulary words:  Hands, Left, right.

Skills/Learning Styles/Intelligences: Literacy, Fine Motor, Visual/Spatial, Social/Emotional

Extended Learning: Discuss whether child's replica hand is his/her left or right hand. As you print, say the words you are writing so that the young student relates the oral words to the printed words. Draw/cut out hands of other family members.  Discuss sameness/differences.  Encourage young student to put them in order by size.

História:  (Viendo niños hacer cosas buenas) Los sentimientos de los niños acerca de ellos mimos, estan siendo formados desde cuando ellos escuchan de adultos importantes lo que dicen acerca de ellos. Por eso, esté seguro de que ellos escuchan muchas, muchas cosas positivas acerca de ellos.

Actividad:   Una replica de la manito del niño con una frase positiva acerca de él.

Materiales que necesita:  Como usted decida papel, lapíz, Tijeras, crayones/marcadores / pintura.

Instrucciones: Trace la mano de su niño, si su niño lo puede ralizar por si mismo ó lo quiere dibujar mejor no hay problema. El niño puede escoger si cortarla, decorarla. Deje que el niño escriba su nombre, si no le es fácil, usted le puede ayudar. Luego escribale algo positivo en el trazo de la mano, como por ejemplo: “ John le dió una caja de galletas con su hermana y el con gusto las compartió con ella”.

Vocabulario – Palabras:   Manos, izquierda, derecha.

Destrezas/estilos de aprendizaje/inteligencias:   Literatura, motricidad fina, lógica/matemática (contar), Visual/especial, Socialización.

Enseñanza: Discutir con el niño acerca de la mano izquierda y Derecha. Decirle al niño lo que usted le escribio en el trazo de la mano. Puede dejar que el niño, si lo desea, puede trazar la mano de otros miembros de la familia, hablar acerca de las diferencias y/o semejanzas e incluso puede insinuarle que los coloque en orden de tamaño.
