Paper Flowers

   

Background:   Because in Northeast United States, April is usually a month with a lot of rain and in the month of May, we expect to see flowers beginning to bloom, we have a saying, “April Showers bring May Flowers”.   We are hoping to encourage the blossoming; besides, we need flowers for those beautiful decorated bottles, we are offering one way to make a beautiful paper flower.

Objective:  Families and young children will enjoy an activity of making flowers out of paper.

Materials Needed: 1) Paper of choice.  Tissue Paper and Crepe Paper work very well.  Paper from junk mail or magazines assists the environment.  2)  Scissors   3) Material for stems, perhaps a green pipe cleaner  4) Stencils to draw around for circles; at least two, one slightly larger than the others.   Lids work very well for this purpose.   5)  Glue

Process:   Encourage young child to draw two sets of circles, one lightly larger than the other.  For younger child, adult may assist. Encourage young student to cut out the circles.   Cutting straight on line is not important.  A little ruffling along the edges adds to the beauty. Encourage young student to stack the papers, with smallest ones on top. Help him punch two holes in the middle. Encourage him to thread the pipe cleaner through the two holes, pull it through until there are two protruding pieces of the pipe cleaner showing, then twist it. Encourage child to draw the papers (petals) towards the middle, using glue to make them stick if necessary.

Skills/Learning Styles/Intelligences:  Fine motor control (necessary for printing); Visual Perception, Math (counting petals, also identifying geometric shape, circle), Literacy (rhyming), Naturalistic (flowers, rain, changing seasons).

Extended Learning:   Encourage creativity by designing paper flowers using other shapes such as heart shape; Make a chart of the rainy season, beginning April 1.  Guess together how many days in April it will rain, and mark each day to see how close you come. Go for a walk frequently and watch for signs of blossoming flowers.

Flores de Papel

         

Historía:  Porque en el Noreste de los Estados Unidos, abril es usualmente un mes con muchas lluvias en el mes de Mayo nosotros esperamos ver que las flores comienzan a nacer, nosotros tenemos un dicho “ La lluvia de abril trae las flores de Mayo”. Esperamos apoyar el florecimiento, ademas nosotros necesitamos flores para esas bellas botellas ya decoradas. Estamos ofreciendo una forma de cómo hacer unas bellas flores de papel.

Objetivo:   Las Familias y los niños disfrutaran la actividad de hacer flores de papel.

Materiales que necesita:  1) Papel de su escogencia.  Papel de seda o de crepe trabajan bastante bien.  Papel de la correspondencia sin importancia o de magazines.  2) Tijeras  3) Materiales para el tallo, papel de color verde.  4) diseño para trasar circulos alrededor;  por lo menos dos, uno un poco mas grande que el otro. Dirija el trabajo bastante bien con este proposito. 5) Pega.

Proceso:   Anime a sus niños a dibujar dos pares de circulos, uno un poco mas grande que el otro. Para los niños mas pequeños los adultos por favor de ayudarlos. Anime a los niños a recortar los circulos. Cortar las lineas rectas no tiene importancia. Si queda un poco rustico en las orillas les da un toque de belleza. Anime a los niños a colocar el papel uno encima del otro y colocando el mas pequeño encima. Ayudenlos a hacer dos perforaciones en el medio. Animelos a ensaltar el palito ( o tallo) por los dos perforaciones, jalelo hasta que queden dos pronunciados pedazos del palito y luego enrollelos. Anime a el niño a dibujar sobre el papel (petalos) hacia el centro, use pega para hacer que se peguen si es necesario.

Destrezas/estilos de aprendizaje/ inteligencias:  Control Motriz Fino (necessario para imprimir); Percepcion Visual, Matematicas (contra los petalos, ademas identificar figures geometricas, circulos),  Alfabeto (ritmas), Naturaleza (flores, lluvia, cambios de temperatura).

Continuo aprendizaje: Anime a la creatividad diseñando flores de papel usando otras figuras tales como:corazones; Haga un calendario de la tempora de lluvia comenzando el 1 de Abril.  Adivinen juntos cuantos dias en abril va a llover, y marque cada dia para ver cuantos dias acierta. Vaya a caminar frecuentemente y busque por signos del crecimiento de las de flores.
