St. Patrick's Day - March 17

Background: St. Patrick’s Day is celebrated annually on March 17.  St. Patrick’s Day is a national holiday in Ireland and is celebrated by people of Irish descent in many other countries, especially by Irish Americans in the United States. One popular St. Patrick’s Day tradition is wearing green clothing. The main symbol associated with the holiday is the shamrock. Activity:  Friendship Shamrock: Young student colors and cuts out 3-leaf shamrock to wear to show friendship on St. Patrick's Day. source: http://www.first-school.ws/activities

While the child is working, count the number of leaves, the color, the tradition. Note: If child is just learning colors, show him something green, say, "This is green. Can you find something else that is green?"

You will need:  Paper, scissors, crayons/ markers/ or paint. For safety, in attaching to wear, use tape rather than a sharp pin.

Instructions:  
   1. Use the drawing to draw a shamrock on paper.
   2. Encourage young student to color the shamrock and cut it out.

Extended Learning:  
  1. Take a walk and look for objects that are green.
  2. Look around the house or in a magazine or catalog for things that are green.
  3. If using paint, provide blue and yellow paint and encourage child to discover what happens when they are mixed.

Marzo 17 – “El Día de San Patricio “

História:  El Día de San Patricio es celebrado anualmente en marzo 17. Este es un día de fiesta Nacional en Irlanda y es celebrado por la gente Irlandes descendientes de muchos otros paises, especialmente por los Americano – Irlandeses en los Estados Unidos. Una tradición popular, es vestir ropa verde. El símbolo principal es asociado con la fiesta del trébol. De acuerdo a la leyenda, San Patricio usaba los tréboles, por que las 3 hojas explican al cristianismo la Doctrina de la Trinidad. Para mayor fuente de información, “Encarta.com"

Actividad:  Amigo Trébol: el niño trazará, coloreará y cortará tréboles para pegarlo a su ropa y mostrarlo a sus amigos. Mientras el niño realiza ésta actividad cuenten juntos las hojas, digan el color, cuéntele la tradición. Nota: Si el niño hasta ahora está aprendiendo los colores, muestrele diferentes objetos verdes; será fácil para él y luego pidale que encuentre algo mas que sea de color verde.

Usted necesitará:  papel, Tijeras, crayones - marcadores ó pintura. Por seguridad, la ropa que niño vista que no lleve alfileres, mejor use cinta o algo diferente.

Instrucciones:  
  1. Ayúdele al niño a trazar  tréboles de diferentes tamaños.
  2.  Ayúde al niño a colorearlo y a cortarlo.
