Paper Beads

                      

Background:    Stringing beads is a great learning activity.   It  develops fine motor control needed for tasks like printing; it gives opportunity for creating and following patterns, another cognitive skill.  Counting, matching, identifying colors, sorting are other skills enhanced.  We use large wooden beads for such activities.  We emphasize large to avoid possible choking with use of smaller beads.   For the purpose of creating jewelry “to keep”, some color food items such as macaroni.  Because we choose not to use food items for crafts, we suggest creating paper beads made of junk mail.  Thus we have an added benefit:  reducing the land fill! .

Objective :  Young student and family member will enjoy time together creating paper beads to use for a variety of purposes.  Young student will have opportunity to cut, create, sort, identify colors, string beads in patterns, count.

Materials Needed:  Scissors, Junk Mail or other paper of choice, glue of choices (white paper glue, glue stick, etc.  You will also need a piece of yarn or cord on which the beads can be strung.

Process:    Cut strips of paper in size (width and length) of choice.  Start wrapping the short end around a pencil or other type of rod.  Glue the last half inch or so.

Skills/Learning Styles/Intelligences: Verbal/Linguistic (conversing, describing), Logical Mathematical (counting, sorting, matching, patterning), Visual/Spatial, Fine Motor Control (cutting, wrapping, gluing, stringing), Interpersonal (working together), Naturalist (creating something new from discard).

Extended Learning:   Experiment creating beads, using various widths and lengths. Start a pattern such as red bead, blue bead, yellow bead, red bead, blue bead, yellow bead, and then encourage young student to continue to string beads following the pattern. Experiment with variety.  Example: An interesting bead results when you cut a length of paper in a “V” or triangle shape. Count together how many beads are in a group, such as “How many yellow beads do we have?” Where developmentally appropriate, start the process of learning color names, i.e., “This is a blue bead.  See if you can find another blue bead.  Is there anything else blue in the room?”

Mullos o Lentejuelas de Papel

                      

Historía: Ensaltar mullos o lentejuelas es una magnifica actividad.   Desarrolla el control motriz fino necesario para tareas como imprimir;  les da la oportunidad de crear y seguir ejemplos, otra destreza cognocitiva.  Contar, comparar, identificar colores, clasificar son otras destrezas de mejoramiento. Nosotros usamos mullos o lentejuelas grandes para esta actividad.  Nosotros enfatizamos que sean  grandes para evitar posibles atragantamientos con el uso de mullos o lentejuelas pequeñas. Para crear joyas “ y guardarlas”, algunos articulos comestibles coloreados tales como  las pastas Ya que nosotros escogimos no usar articulos comestibles para artesanias,  les sugerimos crear mullos o lentejuelas con papel hechas con las cartas sin importancia.

Objetivo:    Los jovenes estudiantes y los miembrs de sus familias van a disfrutar el tiempo juntos creando mullos o lentejuelas de papel para ser usadas en propositos varaibles. Los jovenes estudiantes tendran la oprtunidad de cortar, crear, clasificar, identificar colores, ensaltar mullos o lentejuelas con ejemplos, contar.

Materiales que necesita: Tijeras, correspondencia sin importancia o algun otra clase de papel que usted escoja, pega de su gusto (pega blanca para papel, pega, pega en barra, etc.  Usted ademas necesitara un pedazo de lana o cordon en donde los mullos o lentejuelas seran ensaltadas.

Proceso:  Cortar pedazos de papel (ancho y largo) a su escogencia. Comience a enrollar alrededor de un lapiz o cualquier otro tipo de barra. Pegue la ultima media pulgada o alrededor.

Destrezas/estilos de aprendizaje/inteligencias: Verbal/Lenguaje(conversacion, descriptcion, LogicamMatematica (countar, clasificar, comparar, diseñar), Visual/Espacial, Control Motriz Fino (cortar,envolver, pegar, ensaltar), Interpersonal (trabajar juntos), Naturaleza (crear algunas cosas nuevas de desechos).

Continuo aprendizaje: Experimentar la creacion de mullos o lentejuelas, usar varios medidas anchas y largas. Comenzar un diseño con  mullos o lentejuelas tales como roja, blue, amarilla,  luego anime a sus jovenes estudiantes a continuar ensaltando los mullos o lentejuelas siguiendo el mismo diseño. Experimente una variedad.  Ejemplo: Un mullo o lentejuela interesante resulta cuando corta el papel en forma de “V” o en figura de triangulo. Cuenten juntos cuantos mullos o lentejuelas hay por grupos, tales como “Cuantos mullos o lentejuelas tenemos en amarillo?” Donde se desarrolla apropiadamente, comienza el proceso de aprender el aprendimiento de el nombre de los colores, “Esta en un mullo o lentejuela azul”. Mira si tu puedes encontrar otro mullo o lentejuela azul. Hay cualquier otra cosa azul en el carto?
