No People Like Snow People

                    

Background:    Winter in Northeast U.S.A. is unpredictable.  It may be freezing one day and much warmer the next.  We may have rain one day, sunshine the next, and snow or sleet the day after that.   Children in this area look forward to snow activities, such as building snowmen, sledding, etc.

Objective:  Families and children shall enjoy together an indoor winter art activity that involves understanding of cold weather, snow, as well as the shape, circle, to wit, crafting a snow person out of either clay or paper, and the meaning of small, medium, square.

Materials Needed:  Choice as desired of clay, paper, circle shapes, crayons, markers, paint.

Process:   Decide together whether you will craft a clay snow person or a drawing or painting. For clay, encourage young student to roll three balls of varying sizes and stack them on each other, with largest on bottom.  Together, Improvise and add eyes, hat, smiling mouth, buttons, broom. For the drawing, provide young student with three circles (small, medium, large) to use as stencils for drawing (and then coloring with paint, crayons or markers) three circles, with largest on bottom.  Encourage him to draw eyes, hat, smiling mouth, buttons, scarf, broom, according to ability. The circles may be drawn and cut out from cardboard.  Empty cereal boxes are a good resource.  Some children fine motor skills will benefit from cutting out the circles themselves.

Skills/Learning Styles/Intelligences: Art, social/emotional, science, mathematical/logical, fine motor control, literacy.

Extended Learning:   Observe and discuss weather each morning; keep a calendar and draw a symbol for the weather of the day. Watch and wait with young student for a big snow man� and then enjoy making a real snow person together. Enjoy an indoor game called cold-warm-hot.  Hide an object (could be the snowman) in the room.  As  young student searches, clap hands softly for cold, louder for warm, and very loud for hot, until the object is found.

A la Gente no le Gusta la Gente Fria

                 

Historía:  El invierno en noreste de USA es impredecible.  Puede estar congelado un dia y al dia siguiente mas caliente.  Podrias tener lluvia un dia, y al dia siguiente el sol brillante y  nieve o hielo el proximo dia.   Los niños en esta area estan buscando por actividades con nieve, tales como construir hombres de nieve, deslizarse.

Objetivo:   Las familias y niños deben disfrutar juntos de actividades de arte en invierno adentro que envuelva el conocimiento de temparaturas frias, nieve, tambien como figuras, circulos, ingenio, construir un hombre de nieve ya sea de plastilina o papel y el significado de un cuadrado pequeño o mediano.

Materiales que necesita:  Escoger la plastilina que prefiera, papel, figura en circulo, crayones, marcadores, pintura.

Proceso:   Decidan juntos que van a construir un hombre de nieve en plastilina, dibujarlo o pintarlo. Con la plastilina, anime a su joven estudiante a enrollar tres bolas de plastilina de varios tamaños y ponerlas una encima de la otra, colocando la mas grande debajo.  Juntos, improvise y agreguele ojos, sombrero, boca sonriente,botones, escoba.   Para el dibujo, provea a su joven estudiante tres circulos ( pequeño, mediano, grande) para que los usen como plantilla para dibujar (colorearlos con pinturas, crayones o marcadores) a los tres circulos, con el mas grande debajo. Animelo a dibujar ojos, sombrero, boca sonriente, botones, bufanda, escoba, de acuerdo a sus habilidades.   El circulo puede ser dibujado y recortado en carton.  Vacie cajas de cereal como un buen  recurso. Para algunos niños las destrezas de control fino se benefician cortando los circulos ellos mismos.

Destrezas/estilos de aprendizaje/inteligencias:  Arte, social/emocional, ciencia, matematicas, control motor fino, alfabetismo.

Continuo aprendizaje: Observar y discutir las condiciones del tiempo cada mañana; Mantener un calendario y dibujar  un simbolo para las condiciones del tiempo cada dia. Observe y espere con los jovenes estudiantes por una gran cantidad de nieve entonces disfrute haciendo un hombre de nieve juntos. Disfrute de juegos en el interior de su hogar llamados frio-tibio-caliente.  Esconda un objeto (podria ser el hombre de nieves) en el cuarto . Mientras los jovenes estudiantes buscan, aplauda suavecito cuando este frio, mas duro cuando este tibio, y muy duro cuando este caliente, hasta que el objeto sea encontado.
