Dream-makers
club
Suzanne & Bob Blackburn initiated the Thirty-thirty Club
in 1997 to celebrate Better Beginnings’ thirtieth year - and to help Better
Beginnings meet the challenge of a funding shortage. The concept was
straightforward: Individuals or families pledged a certain amount
per month for a year. The result helped Better Beginnings
survive some severe funding cuts.
As Better Beginnings celebrates its
fortieth
year, this high-achieving service continues to be
under-funded. The center continues to maintain an
excellent service, encouraging parents and children to
dream of a bright future, and assisting
in helping those dreams to come true. A new version of that
Thirty-thirty
endeavor is offered:
Dream-makers.
Like the original, this offers the opportunity of many supportive members
to share the joy of making a difference in the lives of others,
right here in our own community.
This concept is inspired by
Ondina and Wilfred Jeffers.
Our vision is 40
Dream-makers
pledging $100 per month for one year. This would result in a
celebratory sum of $48,000. A part of the funds
could be used to meet current expenses,
and part invested in our small endowment fund which has
investment objectives of optimum safety and yield.
The goal is to make our program better able to withstand
occasional reductions in public funding.
Additional
Dream-makers
making monthly pledges of at least $40
each would be just as dreamy.
