Really, I am impulsive or procrastinating as I began to edit this blog I suddenly needed the smell of fresh cut lavender on my desk so I quickly ran downstairs and cut a bunch from my herb garden in my slippers an pj’s, so what! Anyway……..small projects…………….
Small projects can make a big impact. I know a first time home owner who was not quite ready for the expense of a major kitchen or bath remodel and was not at all confident in the process of selecting materials, finishes, & products. So she decided to start with the guest bathroom. This 5x5 space became the testing ground for future projects. She found she was able to make selections, work with a contractor, designer, and maintain her budget. She became familiar with the process of selecting materials, ordering products, managing a realistic time schedule and viola!! CONFIDENCE!
Small project = BIG impact!! Even the small projects make you feel good about your home. If your budget does not allow for a major renovation embrace the process set goals and break the large renovation into smaller projects.
Here are some helpful hints on this process:
Start with a room that bothers you the most (even if it is small)
Decide your over all style and color palette; this does not have to be room specific just a general idea of the colors and styles you like the most.
Do not confuse style and trend you can appreciate a trend but have to live with a style.
If you are unsure or a have a limited budget pick a small project that you can experiment with.
Become familiar with products and price points. You may fall in love with a Wolf Range but, it may not be in your budget there are alternatives that may fit your budget.
Realize that that even a small project is going to be disruptive…live with it! You are getting a project done, lucky!
Have fun, keep it small.........at first!
