A two-mile walking tour of the Delaware & Raritan Canal in Trenton, a largely hidden jewel of the city’s downtown area, will be held Saturday, Nov. 21.
The free event, which begins at 9:30 a.m. at Cadwalader Park, will end at Battle Monument Park and includes a tour of the new Canal Plaza townhouse project near the Battle Monument.
Participants will be joined by representatives of the D&R Canal Watch, the Mayor of Trenton’s Canal Banks Advisory Committee, the Delaware & Raritan State Park and the Hillcrest Civic Association. During the walking tour, they will discuss the history of the canal in Trenton, its impact on the city and the challenges facing the canal park today.
Meet at Ellarslie, the Trenton City Museum, in Cadwalader Park. Transportation will be available at the end of the walk back to Cadwalader Park. Rain will cancel the event.
The walk is sponsored by D&R Canal Watch, the Canal Banks Advisory Committee and the Hillcrest Civic Association. For more information call 609-989-3610.
